These volunteers will sign a contract to work for 1700 hours over the course of ten months, and will receive living stipends and an educational award worth a total of $14,725. Founded by two Tulane University students in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, SAFER is a group that coordinates student volunteers from around the country to rebuild New Orleans homes. SAFER is an officially recognized student organization at Tulane University, and operates from an office on the university campus.
